Myth 2: Wearing glasses or contact lenses will make me dependent on them.
People often believe that wearing glasses or contacts will make their vision worse, and they will have to depend on them to see. This is not true as wearing glasses or contacts will not make your vision worse or cause eye problems and diseases. If you need a prescription to see, it is best to get corrective eyewear to avoid eyestrain and have the best vision possible.
Myth 3: Sunglasses will protect my eyes, so it’s alright to look directly at the sun.
It is often believed that all sunglasses are made the same. This is not true as most sunglasses vary depending on the quality of their lenses. Darker lenses do not mean that they will protect your eyes better from UV rays. When purchasing sunglasses, it is important to find ones that have UV protection. If a pair of sunglasses are dark but don’t protect from UV, they are worse for your eyes. This is because your pupils will become bigger from the dark lenses, so you will be exposed to more UV rays, which the lenses don’t filter out. Also, just because a pair of sunglasses do have UV protection does not mean you can look directly at the sun. Looking at the sun with ordinary sunglasses is not safe and can damage your retina, causing blindness. Special filters are required for you to look directly and safely at the sun.
