Future Endeavours For Opsis Eye Care
The pandemic has had a devastating effect on several individuals and businesses around the world. Many small businesses have suffered due to forced shut-downs, a change in spending habits, and reduced overall viability. With many of our patients struggling and working around the new restrictions, we were put in a tight spot as well. We closed for nearly three months. When we did resume operations, we limited the number of patients we saw and made significant adjustments to practice safety protocols and ensure our patients and staff are well protected.
Besides the economic changes and the restrictions on interactions, COVID-19 has also modified how we study, work, and play. As the COVID-19 lockdowns started in March of 2020, it’s become the norm for our children to attend classes online, reducing the time they spend outdoors and forcing them to stare at a screen for extended periods. The same goes for many individuals who’ve been working from home.
The problem with staring at screens for an extended period is that there is a higher strain on the eyes. With the increased usage of computers and screens, myopia’s onset is increased in adults and young children. Our concern is that with the pandemic still not entirely under control, patients that need an eye check-up or treatment could find it hard to get the care they need.
To be there for our patients, as soon as the pandemic allowed, we were back offering routine eye exams, albeit part-time, at a much-reduced capacity. However, nearly a year later, with the vaccine now available, we are pretty much back to full operations, except for still being closed on Thursdays. We hope to be soon open seven days a week to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. We will continue to provide excellent service and care regarding eye exams, glasses dispensing, contact lenses, myopia control, etc.
We also look forward to relaxing safety protocols once the situation has settled to allow us to afford our patients more comfort and a less rigid eyecare experience. We are additionally gearing up to recall and remind patients they are due for their annual eye exam as no matter how busy you are, your and your family’s eyesight is crucial.
Our goals are to educate parents and emphasize the dangers of allowing our youth to spend extended amounts of time on smartphones or computers and the increased risk of myopia due to such behavior.
